Online wins clearly. No travel means sessions fit around school, clubs and family life, and a tutor in another time zone can still teach at a time that suits you.

Focus and tools

A good online setup — a shared digital whiteboard, screen sharing and instant past-paper access — can actually beat pen and paper. Everything written in the session can be saved and revisited.

Cost

Without travel time and costs, online tutoring is usually more affordable per hour, and you can book shorter, more frequent sessions that suit how memory actually works.

When in-person still helps

Very young learners, or students who genuinely can't focus on a screen, sometimes do better in person. For most IGCSE and A-Level students, though, online is at least as effective.

What actually drives results

Format matters less than these three things: the tutor explains clearly, the sessions are consistent, and every mistake gets reviewed. Get those right — online or in person — and grades move.
